Being a regular customer at the Passions of Kerala Banana Leaf Rice restaurant in Brown Garden, Gelugor, I decided to give the relatively new branch located at the New World Park a try.

If a visitor to Penang asked me if he/she only had time to eat nasi kandar once, which nasi kandar shop would I recommend? Without hesitation, I would recommend Line Clear Nasi Kandar. Of all the nasi kandar shops that I have gone to, this one beats others hands down.

Woodlands Special Thali

Although there are probably a few others, but the Madras New Woodlands Restaurant is the only pure vegetarian Indian food restaurant that I know of in Penang. When I say "pure", it means that don't expect to order a Masala Chicken or Mutton Curry to go with your dishes. The food here is excellent. Eating here reminds me of the dishes I ate when I travelled to India a few years back.

Kapitan's, although famous for its Tandoori Chicken, serves a really good variety of food. Open 24 hours a day, it is strategically located along Lebuh Chulia (Chulia Street). I went back to the shop after more than 2 years, and suddenly I appreciated how good the food is.
