Another sms scam report in The Star today KUALA LUMPUR: If you receive an SMS saying you have just won RM15,000 in cash and RM250 in reload credit, beware - it is a scam. The text message reads "Tahniah, simcard anda memenangi hadiah cek tunai RM15,000 plus reload kredit RM250 dari peraduan DiGi. Sila hubungi 006281343842239, terima kasih" (Congratulations, your simcard has won RM15,000 in cash plus reload credit of RM250 from a DiGi contest, please contact 006281343842239, thank you). According to DiGi head of corporate communications Saffura Chinniah, it is one of the common SMS hoaxes that get circulated around and people should not fall prey to these scams. Chinniah, who also received the SMS, said the contact number provided belonged to an Indonesian mobile phone. "Please ignore hoax SMSes promising rewards and cash prizes, especially when they require you to provide your bank account number." When contacted, DiGi head of customer service, Christina Ng, said that these messages are not sent by DiGi and urged customers to report and delete the messages. "DiGi does not condone these chain letter style spam messages. We hope that our customers will not fall prey to these scams." Ng added that customers should get in touch with DiGi customer service personnel at 0162211800 or www.digi.com.my to authenticate and report suspicious messages received.
